All the best ways to enjoy VIVID Sydney 2019

Vivid Sydney has arrived for another year kicking off tonight at 6pm until June 15. The world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas will transform Sydney’s most popular landmarks into a kaleidoscope of colour during incredible outdoor lighting displays in addition to a program that is crammed full of live music, art displays and discussion panels over 23 days.

It’s no surprise that the event draws a crowd but here are all the best ways to enjoy VIVID Sydney this year away from the crowds. With some of the best vantage points to speak of, these exclusive VIVID experiences promise a night to remember.

Sydney Harbour Cruise

From 6pm every night you can witness VIVID’s light installations light up several inner city precincts including Circular Quay, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour and Luna Park. On foot it is a mammoth task to try to see them all but the task is made easier aboard a leisurely VIVID Sydney cruise that conveniently takes you past each of these precincts. The harbour cruises are a great way to avoid the crowds and the experience offers unforgettable memories and the chance to view the light displays from a different perspective.

Witness city icons explode into a world of colour on the Sydney Tall Ships with delicious food and drinks during their 1.5 hour cruise. Captain Cook Cruises will have VIVID cruises running nightly throughout the festival at 5.45pm, 6.45pm, 7pm, 8pm, 8.15pm and 9.15pm guaranteeing you a front row seat to all the action.

For something more extravagant look to Vagabond and iToursntix for a cocktail dinner cruise with spacious viewing decks or a cultural experience aboard Tribal warrior during their 2 hour VIVID Sydney cruise with an aboriginal performance and great hospitality from the crew as you take in the bright lights.

If you are on a budget then the 60 minute Fantasea Cruises  is the perfect solution to see all the landmarks on display with a fully licensed bar on board if you want to enjoy a nightcap while out on the water.

Sydney Harbour Bridge VIVID Climb

This year you can celebrate VIVID a little differently with the help of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Become part of the festival’s light display as a bridge climber with your very own LED light vest supplied to you as you climb the famous arches of the bridge. Climbers will find an illuminated dance floor in the sky at the summit and the best harbour views imaginable. There isn’t a better vantage point for VIVID then right here atop of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. A 3.5 hour climb or an express 2.5 hour climb are available every night during the festival.

Luna Park Sydney

If you have kids with you or perhaps are young at heart yourself then the Luna Park precinct at Milson’s Point is a great alternative to enjoy VIVID. Not only is it a great vantage point, but Luna Park itself is apart of the action this year with their very own display. Enjoy the unique views of VIVID from the top of the Ferris Wheel or their brand new ‘Voltare’ ride and when you feel peckish grab a bite to eat at one of the eateries in the park.

The kids can burn off excess energy running around the Art Deco amusement park playing on the sideshow games, carousel rides and fun houses with VIVID Sydney as a colourful backdrop.

Aside from the nightly illuminations within the Sydney Harbour there are a plethora of events happening right across the city including at the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Art Gallery of NSW, The Rock and The Museum of Contemporary Art.

Sydney’s VIVID Festival will run from May 24 to June 15 with a plethora of live music events, art installations and discussion panels that aim to inspire.
