If you love cider then you’ll love this annual event in New Zealand’s Nelson region. The New Zealand Cider Festival is returning for a second year to bring you all the best in all things cider for one day. Nelson’s high concentration of cideries produce 60% of the country’s total production, so it’s only fitting this event takes place in the sunny region once again.
With a number of cideries on site to give you samples of their finest ciders (there will be over 80 varieties!) as well as artisan food from some of the region’s best eateries, this is a day out the whole family will enjoy!
Some of the cideries setting up shop at the event include Old Mout Cider, Zeffer Cider Co., Harrington’s Breweries, Peckham’s Cidery & Orchard, Good George Brewing and Rochdale, the oldest cidery in New Zealand.
Despite the event focusing on alcoholic ciders, it is a family-friendly event that welcomes children under the age of 18 years for free (as long as they’re accompanied by a paying adult).
With more than cider on the agenda, there is delicious food, entertaining live music from some of New Zealand’s best musicians, informative talks on various aspects of ciders and craft beer and wine from Aronui Wines should you acquire a different taste than cider.
There will also be a range of entertainment for the kids to enjoy while you focus on the adult-fun.
If you’re planning to attend the event to enjoy the entertainment you’ll be pleased to hear the acts the event has lined up! There will be The Wellington City Shake-‘Em-On-Downers, Hopetoun Brown, The Swan Swisters and Bryce Wastney, with performances spread throughout the day.
For those interested in learning more about cider and the making of this delicious drink, there are five speakers lined up to deliver presentations on various different aspects of cider making.
There will be Yvonne Lorkin from Wine Friend, Jody from Zeffer Cider Co., Caroline Peckham from Peckham’s Cider, Kevin Hopgood from Hopgood’s Restaurant, and Nick Widley from Cod & Lobster Brasserie. You’ll be in good company with all of these speakers as you learn all about cider from the experts.
The event is being held at the Founder’s Heritage Park which can be reached easily by car with plenty of onsite parking, by bus services running from the city centre and by foot as it’s just a 15-minute walk from the Nelson i-Site.
